Eucharistic Ministry

Who are the EMHC?

Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are the Catholic lay faithful who demonstrated and practiced their religious belief and commitment in the Church and in the outside world.

What does a Eucharistic minister do?

The EMHC assist in the distribution of the precious Body and Blood of Jesus Christ at the Mass and bringing the Hosts to the homebound, sick and disabled or otherwise unable to attend the Mass.  Ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated Host.  They also assist in the sacristy before and after the Mass.

How often do I serve?

Depending on the number of ministers assigned to a particular Mass, you may serve at least twice a week in obligation Masses.

Which mass will I be assigned to?

In every celebration of the Eucharist, there should be sufficient number of ministers.  You may serve in the Mass of your choice, but we often ask ministers to help cover all Masses in weekdays, when there is need especially on Feast days and special occasions.

Are there meetings?

A monthly meeting to attend and to discuss group activities and spiritual formation, EMHC are encouraged to attend the monthly Holy Hour, Deepening of Catholic Faith and Bible studies.

How can I be a Eucharistic minister?

If you belong to a certain community in the Sacred Heart Church, you may approach your Spiritual director or the Parish Priests who will arrange a training session for Spiritual formation.
